Underwater video

Add underwater sound to your underwater video
It can be simple and inexpensive.

Underwater video cameras bring the wonders of undersea life to our living rooms. But, they miss more than they capture.

Underwater video isn't complete unless you add underwater sound to your camera. Because when you come right down to it, it's SOUND that fills the oceans not light. Underwater video cameras that just record the image capture less than half of the real experience. Would you go to the movies wearing earplugs?

To add sound to your video camera you'll need an underwater microphone, known as a hydrophone. These come in many sizes and shapes and have been prohibitively expensive for all but the most well endowed projects. Dolphinear has changed that by making inexpensive hydrophones available to the general public.

If you want to add real underwater sounds to your footage in post production, you can use the Dolphinear while on the surface. Just plug it into the camera and record.

For underwater use, mount the dolphinear preamp inside your waterproof housing. You have the option of running the hydrophone outside the waterproof case using a suitable watertight connector, or placing the hydrophone element within the case itself. While it's most effective on the outside, it does an good job picking up underwater sounds right through the case.

When we think of underwater sounds, we immediately think of whales and dolphins. Encounters of the cetacean kind can be spectacular when sound is added to the usually murky footage. In fact, it often makes otherwise dull footage sellable.

Almost every creature that lives in water makes some form of sound. Which is quite logical when you consider that the underwater world is nearly pitch black. Light only penetrates a few tens of metres below the surface. In rivers where murky water is the norm, you can only see a metre or two at best. So creatures that use sounds to find food have long ago eaten all those that didn't.

With a DolphinEar you can capture the sounds of fish, snapping shrimp, distant ships and boats, even a nearby submarine! And, we're not just talking ocean sound either. Hear frogs, and beavers, and eels, and the kids paddling in the swimming pool.

Dolphinear's underwater sound capabilities open a new world for your creativity.
